Quality Vs. Quantity Travel

On my recent travels, I can't even count how many times I was asked, "How many countries have you been to?"

Although the question comes with no ill intent, within backpacker circles, it has almost started to feel like a competition. We are in awe of the traveler with 30+ countries on their list. When I meet these lucky fellers, in a way, it kind of makes me feel like "damn," I thought I had been to a lot. And I have! I was like why am I comparing myself right now.

I think a HUGE missing part of this question is the QUALITY of your travels. We've all been getting so caught up in the numbers.

After all, you could be a millionaire and have gone to every country, but barely scratched the surface of all the places and experiences traveling offers. But then what does it mean to truly experience a country to all its depth? Do you have to do certain things? Or stay for a certain length? Is this even possible to answer this question???

I think the answer is ultimately different for each person.

For me, it means getting to know the locals on a personal level, trying their food, exploring beyond the tourist attractions, and being open to fully immersing myself in a new country and its people.
